Kenting, located on the Hengchun Peninsula and often referred to as "The Southernmost Point of Taiwan," is renowned for its stunning beaches, exciting water activities, hidden mountain trails, national parks, and fresh seafood.
Most travelers reach Kenting by taking a bus or renting a car from the Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station in Kaohsiung. For our trip, we drove from the station to Kenting, which took approximately 2.5 hours.
Travel Season
From October to April, Kenting enters its off-peak travel season. The “Luoshan Wind,” essentially the northeast monsoon, sweeps through during this period. The wind forms a channel and sometimes can reach speeds of 10 to 17 meters per second, comparable to the strength of a mild typhoon. During this time, please be very careful if you travel by bike or scooter. As a result, fewer tourists visit during this time. However, if you prefer to avoid crowded places or excessively hot weather, October to November is the ideal time to visit Kenting.

This time, we booked a hotel - ErDong Manor, with a fantastic location. ErDong Manor is very convenient for accessing the beach and Kenting Street, and there’s a large parking lot nearby. ErDong Manor is tucked away at the deepest part of the alley, ensuring a quiet and peaceful stay—one of the main reasons I chose to stay here.

The stay was perfect, blending hotel-level service with a warm and welcoming vibe. The host was attentive and gave a clear tour of shared spaces, including comics on the stairs,a self-service snack bar, a vinyl music lounge, a kids' play area, a rooftop pool, a grass slide, a bar, a KTV room, and a lawn for yoga.

Room Facilities and Environment
This time, I stayed in the Deluxe Family room. The room was very spacious, with two double beds, two balcony, a shower, and a bathtub. The two beds were placed in separate areas, giving guests some privacy.

Must-Visit Attractions in Kenting
Kenting Dawan Beach
The beach is just a three-minute walk from the ErDong Manor. When you step out of the ErDong Manor, turn right onto Dawuan Road, and you’ll see a bridge leading to the beach! I really like this beach because it’s much quieter compared to the Nanwan swimming area. It’s perfect for having a picnic with friends, enjoying the sea view, and relaxing in a peaceful, undisturbed spot.
However, there are no lifeguards here, so swimming or engaging in water activities is not allowed.
Da Jian Shan Ranch
One of the most iconic landmarks in Kenting is Da Jian Shan Ranch. You can spot its distinctive silhouette from almost anywhere in the area, and I think it’s a big part of what makes Kenting so special and beautiful. However, climbing the mountain is currently prohibited, and violators will be fined by the National Park Police.
Kenting Rangeland
Kenting Ranch is currently the largest beef cattle breeding farm in Taiwan. From the entrance of Kenting National Park, take a left turn at the fork to reach the expansive grasslands. If you're lucky, you might see herds of cattle grazing peacefully in the pastures. Nearby, the wooded areas are home to wild monkeys. Although the monkeys may seem cute, be cautious not to carry food or valuable items, as they might snatch or attack you.
Eluanbi Park & Eluanbi Lighthouse: Dengta Rd, Hengchun Township, Pingtung County
The entrance ticket is NT$60, and you’ll need transportation to get there. The Eluanbi Lighthouse has a history of 141 years and is a must-visit spot for anyone coming to Kenting—perfect for snapping a memorable photo! During the summer, there’s little shade in the park, so don’t forget to bring sunscreen and an umbrella to stay protected from the sun.
Sail Rock: No. 652, Chuanfan Rd, Hengchun Township, Pingtung County
Sail Rock is named for its resemblance to a sailboat about to set sail when viewed from a distance. Another commonly used nickname is "Nixon's Head," as its shape resembles the head of former U.S. President Richard Nixon.
Kenting Street: No. 134, Kending Rd, Hengchun Township, Pingtung County
Every evening, Kenting Street transforms into a lively night market. Here, you can find popular Taiwanese snacks, fun games, and unique souvenirs. What sets it apart from other night markets is the variety of street-side cocktails and vibrant street performances, adding an exciting touch to your nightlife.
However, not all shops are open every day. During the off-season, more vendors tend to operate on weekends.
Peanut Roll with Ice Cream at Kenting Street
Peanut roll ice cream is a snack from Yilan. This dessert is made by shaving peanut brittle into thin flakes, wrapped in a soft spring roll wrapper with ice cream, peanut powder, and a bit of cilantro. It's a tasty and special treat with a strong peanut flavor and a fun mix of textures. It's a must-try dessert for anyone visiting Taiwan!
Noosa Bistro: No. 329, Kending Rd, Hengchun Township, Pingtung County
Noosa Bistro is a mediterranean bistro ,and is located next to Kenting Street and the beach, just a 10-minute walk from ErDong Manor. The restaurant is particularly known for its creative dishes made with fresh, local Taiwanese ingredients. Highlights include pasta, Spanish paella, salads, and seafood. If you’re not accustomed to local flavors, the fusion of Western and Taiwanese cuisine might be the perfect fit for your palate.
The exterior of the restaurant features a modern Moroccan architectural design, offering a refreshing sense of being on a unique getaway. Next door, there’s an ice cream and coffee shop that is only open during the day.
A-Shin Sashi mi: No. 8-11, Daguang Rd, Hengchun Township, Pingtung County
A-Shin Sashimi is located in Houbihu fishing harbor, about 9 kilometers from the ErDong Manor. It is recommended to drive or use other transportation to get there. In Houbihu fishing harbor, you can enjoy the freshest and most authentic seafood, especially sashimi! A-Shin Sashimi is a very popular local eatery known for its fresh and delicious offerings. During meal times, it is always bustling with visitors. Most seafoods have clear pricing, making it a great spot to try local specialties!
During my three-days stay in Kenting, I experienced many unforgettable moments: friendly people, amazing food, breathtaking scenery, and wonderful times with friends. Every year, I will make it a tradition to visit Kenting again.
